How to measure for blinds

MEASURING BLINDS TO FIT A RECESS

The steps below detail the measurements required for blinds to fit inside a recess. We recommend that you use a metal tape measure and record your measurements in mm for greatest accuracy.  To ensure that your blinds will fit within your window recess, the recess has to be at least 75mm deep to house the operating mechanism and you also need to ensure that there are no obstructions anywhere inside the recess (eg handles) that might stop the blind from hanging correctly. Follow the steps below to calculate the full width and height of the recess (the size of the hole) and we will make the appropriate deductions to make sure your blind fits perfectly.

Roman blinds have a deduction of 5mm on each side so that the blind will not rub or scratch your window frame. Roller blind mechanisms are made to your exact measurements to ensure a snug fit, however you should note that the actual width of the blind fabric is 35mm less than the width of the mechanism, this affords easier installation of the roller itself due to the movement allowance of the telescopic pin which fits into the blind wall brackets.

1: Measure the width and the drop in 3 positions, make a note of the smallest measurements.

2: Don’t make any deductions, we will do that for you to ensure your blind fits perfectly.

3: Please choose “inside recess” when placing your order.

4: Choose which side you would like the operating chain and decide on a chain length, taking into account necessary safety requirements.

MEASURING BLINDS TO FIT OUTSIDE A RECESS

The steps below detail the measurements required for blinds to be fitted outside a recess or overlapping the window. We recommend that you use a metal tape measure and record your measurements in mm for greatest accuracy. We will make the blind to your exact measurements, so to stop light from creeping round the edges of your blind, we would recommend that you extend the measurements of your blind above and below the window, and also to either side as detailed below.

1: Measure the width and the drop in 3 positions, make a note of the average measurement. Ensure you allow the blind to extend approximately 50-100mm above and below the window and 50-100mm to either side.

2: Don’t make any deductions, no deductions are made for a blind to fit outside a recess – do take into account any obstructions such as tiles, dado rails or radiators when calculating your final measurements.

3: Please choose “outside recess” when placing your order.

4: Choose which side you would like the operating chain and decide on a chain length, taking into account any necessary safety requirements.

When measuring for blinds use a metal tape measure as cloth or plastic tape measures may stretch. Always quote sizes in millimetres
